Save the Bornean Flat-Headed Frogs
Save the Bornean Flat-Headed Frogs
Why this petition matters

The Bornean Flat-Headed Frog does not receive enough support and conservation effort from surrounding society. We need to change that. If you sign this petition, it will raise awareness around the Bornean Flat-Headed Frogs, who have very few individuals existing in the wild. There were a limited 2 specimens found before 2008, and not many more since. We need to conserve their habitats to avoid driving this species into extinction. Amphibians are the one of the most endangered classes of animals, because they require specific environmental conditions. The Bornean Flat-Headed Frog, however, is even more special. This frog exists without lungs, and it breathes through its skin! It is the only frog to exist with this feature implemented. Due to them having no lungs, the frogs are often found hiding under rocks on riverbeds. If we can protect these areas, we will keep this species living for a long time, versus allowing them to die off. They are threatened by ILLEGAL gold mining, which destroys their habitat, and ILLEGAL logging, which removes the cover over the streams that they live in, allowing the water to heat up and dry out skin. The sun that is being let in also damages cells within the frog. So, we need to fix these issues in order to save a very unique species.
