I'm delighted to share some fantastic news: The Black Horse Pub has officially been listed as an Asset of Community Value!
This is a huge victory for everyone who signed the petition, shared it, or simply believes this pub is worth fighting for. The listing is an important layer of protection against redevelopment should the Black Horse ever be sold and is formal recognition that the pub is part of the fabric of this community.
And there's more good news.
I recently spoke with the Business Development Manager at Star Pubs, who has several interested prospective tenants and promises swift action to bring the pub back to life - ideally in time for the footy this summer. You may notice activity at the pub in the coming weeks such as metal gratings on the windows and doors as the premises is secured and brought up to regulations covering gas, electrics and health and safety. Star Pubs say this is essential prep for reopening.
It's hard not to connect the dots. Our petition reached national, regional, and trade press (including the BBC and the Evening Standard!) sending a clear message that this community wants its pub back. That show of support has helped focus minds and accelerate action. Some prospective tenants even got in touch because of the noise we made.
We have demonstrated that The Black Horse is viable, loved, and needed. Huge thanks to St. John the Baptist Parish Church for lodging the application and to Cllr Emma Whysall for her support.
I'll keep you updated as things progress.
Cheers 🍻
