Save the Beech Tree!

The Issue

A wonderful area of natural habitat adjacent to 42, Southfield Way, Tiverton, Devon is now under threat of construction. This area is a home for a wonderful variety of wildlife including a thriving rook colony, owls, bats, hedgehogs, and rodentia.

Every morning and night, it's absolutely magical to watch the rook colony rise and wheel through the sky. The noise and general building work will destroy this colony .

Aside from the rooks, the area shelters hedgehogs, bats, and serves as a hunting ground for owls, making it a true wildlife haven.

The proposed site for construction is also home to a magnificent centuries-old beech tree under a preservation order that towers over the land, casting a protective shadow on its inhabitants. Building in this location would inevitably lead to catastrophic damage to the tree's root system, causing a slow death for this great tree.

The construction project not only threatens our unique wildlife and iconic beech tree, but also shatters the harmony enjoyed by our community. This house is not needed or wanted by local residents. We understand the need for development but it should not come at the expense of the thriving wildlife, the living history in our beech tree, and the peace of our community.

In conclusion, we urge the responsible planning authorities to rethink this project and prioritize the preservation of local flora and fauna. Please help us in halting this building project that could potentially bring irreparable damages to our beloved wildlife and natural heritage. Sign the petition, call for a halt and ensure our wildlife continues to prosper.
