Patterson Farm Preservation announces a line of farm-friendly wear! Support American agriculture with a shirt featuring a beautiful Patterson Farm scene or farm-friendly motto. Check out our Bonfire store here Purchases fund preservation efforts.

The volunteers of Patterson Farm Preservation have worked diligently to foster awareness for the importance of preserving the municipal-owned, historic Patterson Farm in Bucks County, PA. We were successful in achieving the farm’s listing on Preservation Pennsylvania’s 2021 At Risk List, to bring attention to the farm’s historic and agricultural importance to our Commonwealth and Nation.

In an unfortunate turn of events, Lower Makefield township decision makers recently locked our local farmers out of the essential outbuildings that serve agriculture, and are considering “repurposing” or demolishing some of the farm’s historic structures. Not on our watch!

Patterson Farm is a National Register historic site. Voters supported its preservation by ballot referendum. Elected officials need to be reminded. Please purchase your farm-friendly attire and join the effort to ensure Patterson Farm stays a working farm with buildings intact to serve local food production.

Please join us in standing strong for a common-sense preservation plan for Patterson Farm, now in its 340th year in agriculture. We’ve proposed the restoration of historic Satterthwaite House as the home of Patterson Farm Preservation, Inc. to be known as Patterson Agriculture and Heritage Center, to pay homage to the late Thomas & Alice Patterson, farmers who were ahead of their time, and to honor Pennsylvania’s Quaker heritage, rich farmland, and the future of agriculture.

A farm is much more than barren acreage. In order for Patterson Farm to remain viable it must have outbuildings and homes to serve it. Unfortunately none of the elected decision-makers have experience in farming, and their uninformed perspective could have dire consequences for the future of our precious community farm. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen by speaking out for preservation.

On a personal note, my father Duane Doan was a farm-preservationist and farmer of Patterson Farm, who grew up on that magnificent farm. He, my grandfather and Tom & Alice Patterson worked very hard together for nearly 50 years to enhance the farm, steward it properly and prepare it for the next generation of farmers. Due to a township acquisition by eminent domain, the farm’s fate now lies in the hands of politicians with no agricultural experience. Please join me in advocating proper management of Patterson Farm for present and future generations with a common-sense Master Plan that puts farming FIRST. Because our American farms and our domestic food security are irreplaceable.

For preservation,

Donna Doan, Board Member
