Hello,

Thank you so much for supporting our petition to save the Baby Room at Bright Start Nursery. Thanks to your support the petition will be debated by Brighton and Hove City Council at their next meeting on Thursday 11 July.

This is a chance for us to have our voices heard. But we need to make sure Councillors listen. If you live in Brighton and Hove, please can you write to your Ward Councillor asking them to Stop the Cuts to the Bright Start Baby Room.  You can find your councillor on this page of the Council website.  If you live outside of Brighton and Hove, please could you email Council leader Bella Sankey (bella.sankey@brighton-hove.gov.uk) asking her to reconsider these plans.

Please keep your emails kind and polite and try to emphasise the following points:

1) There is a shortage of affordable under 2s provision in Brighton and Hove city centre -- cutting the baby room will make this worse.

2) Labour Councillors were elected in 2023 on a manifesto that pledged to protect nurseries and expand them if possible. They also underspent on their budget this year, meaning they didn't have to make these cuts.

3) We now have a Labour government that has pledged to expand nursery provision. Why is the Council pressing ahead with cuts that contradict national policy?

We appreciate your help and support.

With best wishes,

Ed
