The start of winter allows a view of the Huron River and the structure of the Arb, seen from the lookout bluff adjacent to Schoolgirls' Glen.
The Arb community: students, city residents, and visitors have long appreciated the gift of access to nature so close by the bustling, expanding medical center. We want to protect the view and the Arb's quality of nature for all to enjoy, including the habitat and refuge provided to resident plants and animals. A transportation route to support a monorail would require removing trees along its path on both sides of the river. Construction would fragment the space and greatly disturb what we see and hear while in the Arb. Ongoing operation of a transportation system would add to disturbance of sound, excess light, motion, and the presence of support structures.
We are asking for thoughtful planning that benefits both nature and wise use of resources for transportation. We are asking for respect for open space that reflects the intent of the original donors of the land, as well as those who lived here long before westernized settlement.
Thank you for signing the petition. We need your help to spread the word. We know that many voices are needed to let decision makers know that they can find a different route for transportation that does not permanently harm a beautiful natural space.
