Save The Aravallis

The Issue

Under the NCR Regional Plan-2021, the Aravalli range in the NCR was protected. However, in the new Draft Regional Plan-2041, a major portion of the Aravallis isn't being protected anymore. This would allow construction, mining and mass destruction to take place in the only major green cover that lies in the NCR.

Aravallis are often referred to as the 'green lungs' of Delhi. In a city with such a high level of pollution, it is of utmost importance that whatever remaining greenery remains, stays as it is.
Moreover, the Aravalli Range acts as a green barrier preventing the desert dust of the Thar desert from entering the NCR.

It is the only wide ranged natural habitat for the wildlife animals, birds and other organisms. Disturbing or causing destruction to it can harm those organisms. By doing this we are snatching away their homes. The animals will have to migrate to find a habitat that best suits them but those who fail to do so will perish. Thus, causing reduction in animal population.

Removing the Aravallis from protection of the government will have several negative repercussions on the environment as well as on the citizens. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that the government reverses its decision. Since this plan is still a draft, we still have a chance to save the Aravallis.
