CSO stands for Combined Sewage Overflow. The Alewife Brook experiences Sewage overflow which affects its floodplains which ends up harming the thousands of people living in that area. Our goal is to upgrade the sewage system so this effect is reduced. 

Did you know that 20.52 million gallons of untreated sewage were dumped into the brook in 2023? The MWRA and/or the Cambridge City Government needs to do something, so sign this petition to get their attention.

The Alewife Brook is named after the Alewife fish that inhabited it for tens of thousands of years, but now they have rapidly disappeared thanks to overflows of sewage clogging and acidifying the Alewife Brook.
