On Sept. 22, 2025 the CFL announced several fundamental changes to the rules and size of the field for the Canadian Football League.

Canadian Football is a superb game, with its own field, its own rules, and its own Canadian identity.

In his announcement, the CFL commissioner cited a desire to change the game to ensure more touchdowns and fewer field goals.

The goal of the Canadian Football League is not to maximize the number of touchdowns per season.  It is to facilitate the play and growth of this great Canadian game that has existed for well over a century.

The League plans to shorten the field, move the goalposts to a position more familiar to the NFL, and eliminate some of the most exciting special team ways to score.  They are planning to remove most of the things that make the Canadian game great.

We ask the League to immediately stop these changes, fully consult the coaches, players, officials and functional team members, and let the Canadian game continue to exist in its present exciting and truly Canadian form.
