Save the 300 year old Oak Tree in Heald Green

The Issue

Oak tree removal situated in a car park which serves the shops on Finney Lane in Heald green.
There is a notice on the Oak tree in Heald Green Stockport saying its being removed. The tree is over 300 years old and the only reason it is being removed is because it is getting in the way! What makes it worse the council will cut this perfectly healthy tree down and plant 4 new sapling trees in its place, to compensate for its loss. I have contacted the council about this, and the response is below. (fact) A mature tree absorbs carbon dioxide at a rate of 48 pounds per year. In one year, an acre of forest can absorb twice the CO2 produced by the average car’s annual mileage. The amount of carbon monoxide this tree can absorb would better the air quality in the area and to simply cut it down for no reason is not acceptable! This will also be at cost of the local taxpayer. Needless money wasted which could be avoided if they changed the plans to accommodate for this wonderful tree! This tree has also previous received a Tree Protection order, but this has since been removed by the council!!
Please add your name to this petition. It only seems like one tree, but this tree could be saved, and we have a right to try and protect it

The planning application has been determined an as part of that determination consideration was given to the trees on site. The removal of the Oak Tree was deemed necessary to allow for the development to take place and the Councils Arboricultural Officer was consulted. Whilst this tree will be removed the landscaping scheme approved requires the planting of 4 native extra heavy standard trees in mitigation for the loss of the oak, including an oak, silver birch, scots pine and rowan.
