Why this petition matters

Started by Kim Nguyen

Birmingham is one of the largest cities in Alabama but yet has little to no tennis courts publically accessible in our neighborhoods.

We need your support to keep two tennis courts available and to support renovation of the four junior tennis courts to have equal number of tennis and pickleball courts.

This way, we could fulfill the needs of both the tennis enthusiasts and the pickleball fans while continuing to provide a free and public community resource. There are no alternative tennis courts in the area that are as high quality and accessible as the ones at Crestwood Park.

The City of Birmingham Parks and Recreation Board has approved a plan to convert existing tennis courts to pickleball courts at Crestwood Park to 6 pickleball and 1 tennis court which is devastating to the surrounding community.

With only 2 functional, free public tennis courts in eastern Birmingham that serve neighborhoods including Crestwood North, Crestwood South, Crestline, Avondale, Forest Park, Highlands, Eastlake, Oak Ridge, Woodlawn, Kingston, Wahoma, Brown Springs, Gate City and many others- the local community is asking for your support to maintain the only two courts available on this side of town.

With 10 new pickleball facilities at CityWalk, there are sufficient facilities to accommodate this sport. However, the city does not have alternative tennis options in proximity for the local community here.

Please support preserving our existing tennis courts in our neighborhood to maintain an equitable number of pickleball and tennis courts.

Our community deserves to have multiple options for recreation, please preserve this beloved resource for public access.
