Recently the Board Coppell ISD has begun a policy of mass teacher layoffs, threatening many teachers and classes.

Some of these teachers include AP US History teacher Kory Kaspar, US History teacher Hank Cinammon, Economics teacher Jentry Bradstreet, AP Computer Science Principles teacher Michael McCabe, and more loved teachers at CHS. Below are some descriptions of why they deserve to keep their jobs. 

Kory Kaspar:

Coach Kaspar just came to Coppell High School this year with his wife, kids, and fourteen years of teaching experience, and it is already apparent that he is one of the most hardworking teachers at CHS. No matter how much work he gives his students, we know he is working just as hard or even harder. Each assignment he gives is hand written and hand graded. Each presentation is hand crafted. Every 40 page long unit note is made by him. Somehow he manages to balance school life with home life, all the while going to school early and staying late after school to give time for his students to finish their assignments. You can tell he loves to teach. Every lecture is passionate, practiced to perfection. He tells history like a story, weaving intricacies and connections to the modern day, keeping history relevant. Some of Coppell High School’s mottos are FISH and GRIT. FISH stands for “be there for one another, make someone’s day, choose your attitude, and play!”, and GRIT means “gratitude, respect, integrity, and trust.” Coach Kaspar perfectly reflects these qualities. He treats his students with trust and respect even as he jokes around. Even when he is tired, he still chooses to give his students a great lecture. He’s always greeting his students with a smile at the beginning of class. We, his students, can always count on him for help with class work or help in general. His class is hard because he cares enough to teach and do work, and he still encourages “play” in the classroom environment. CHS would be losing an invaluable teacher who models its values perfectly. Someone who genuinely cares for the wellbeing of his students. Someone who loves his job. Someone who excels at his job. Someone who future students are counting on. Someone who incoming juniors are already hoping they’ll get as their teacher. There is a definite reason that Kory Kaspar’s students score the best out of any APUSH class. I implore you to aid us in sending a message to the CISD Board: Save our Teacher Kory Kaspar. Preserve hope in education. Show that we care about our teachers. Show that we can beat layoffs.
