Your signature on this petition is a vote to support the creative cooperation of our city's citizens and to preserve Milwaukee's history.

The members of the Milwaukee Common Council have the opportunity to vote on July 6, 2012 to enforce a Temporary Historic Designation for the Sydney Hih building. This designation would prevent the building from being demolished for at least 180 days. There is already a group of citizens, developers, and private donors ready to step forward to create a working group and develop a full-fledged redevelopment plan for the buildings during this timeframe. What we need is time. Your signature on this petition will give us that time.

If you do not sign this petition, the members of the Common Council will interpret that silence as proof that Milwaukee's history is not important to us. The building will be torn down without a development plan and in all likelihood will sit vacant like the rest of the Park East Corridor which has lingered in this state for more than a decade.

Vacant lots do not attract development. Beautiful, unique buildings and engaged citizens do! Vote to Save Sydney Hih. It's one button. It's worth it.

Letter to
City of Milwaukee Common Council City of Milwaukee Common Council Members
I just signed the following petition addressed to: City of Milwaukee Common Council.

My signature on this petition is a vote to support the creative cooperation of our city's citizens and to preserve Milwaukee's history.

As members of the Milwaukee Common Council, you have the opportunity to vote on July 6, 2012 to enforce a Temporary Historic Designation for the Sydney Hih building. This designation would prevent the building from being demolished for at least 180 days. We want you to know that there is already a group of citizens, developers, and private donors ready to step forward to create a working group and develop a full-fledged redevelopment plan for the buildings during this timeframe. What we need is time. Your vote to give us that time is imperative.

Milwaukee's history is important to us. If the Sydney Hih building is torn down now, it will be done so without a development plan and in all likelihood will sit vacant like the rest of the Park East Corridor which has lingered in this state for more than a decade.

Vacant lots do not attract development. We've seen that already. The entire Park East Corridor is proof positive of this. Beautiful, unique buildings and engaged citizens do! Please vote to Save Sydney Hih.

Sincerely,
