Save Sunny's Cafe at Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick

The issue

For over two decades, Sunny's Cafe has been a beacon of comfort and convenience within the Sydney Children's Hospital (SCH) in Randwick. Now, the SCH Foundationb (SCHF) plans to shut down this beloved establishment, likely to make room for a commercial entity. This decision is not only heartbreaking for the dedicated staff of Sunny's Cafe but also for the entire hospital community who rely on its services.

Sunny’s Cafe is more than just a place to grab food and coffee; it represents familiarity and solace in an environment that can often be stressful. The staff members have built strong relationships with hospital workers and families alike over years of service.

The closure would not only disrupt these bonds but also pose practical challenges. Families with children admitted at SCH need quick access to food and beverages without having to leave the premises. The potential replacement by a commercial outfit may not guarantee this accessibility or maintain the warm atmosphere that Sunny’s provides.

This decision seems made without considering these significant losses or consulting those most affected – our hardworking staff, patient families, and loyal patrons of Sunny’s Café.

We urge you to join us in standing against this proposed closure. Your signature can help ensure that Sunny’s Café continues serving our community as it has done so faithfully for more than 20 years.

Our aim is to get to 10000 signatures by the start of May and present the petition to their central email (info@schf.org.au) and Kristina Keneally (Kristina.keneally@schf.org.au), the CEO of the Foundation, in May to reconsider keeping Sunny's Cafe open for the good of the hospital.
