Save sun bears from abuse & exploitation in Sarawak, Malaysia
This petition had 17,471 supporters
At the Miri Crocodile Farm in the Malaysian Borneo state of Sarawak four sun bears are kept in appalling conditions for profit and amusement of farm visitors.
One of the bears, a cub, is exploited for tourist money as visitors are allowed to take photos with her for a fee. This cub, according to a farm worker, is taken away from her mother in a disgusting enclosure early in the day and returned to it at the end.
The bears kept in two separate enclosure can be seen pacing back and forth as a result of immense stress. All bears live in enclosures which resemble a 19th century zoo.
In neighboring Sabah there is now a world recognized sun bear education center and sanctuary of international excellence; also following our very public campaign against cheap and nasty tourist traps abusing two sun bears for profit the Sabah Wildlife Department finally rescued the now internationally infamous Tawau Hot Springs bears and rehoused them at the sun bear sanctuary, thanks to caring supporters on Change.org
Aside from the bears many other animals at the farm are also in urgent need of help from authorities.
All four sun bears at Miri Crocodile Farm, which has had sun bears for over 10 years, must be immediately confiscated and sent to the government run Matang Wildlife Sanctuary.
A short video of three bears available here.
Please sign and share this petition to help save the four sun bears. ONLY pressure and support from caring people will result in confiscation of the bears.
