We have a very simple task that can help keep the Summerfield Cinemas open. Send two emails. Easy.
The situation-- while the sale of the shopping center in which the theater sits is currently on hold, it will not be on hold very long. We hear the center may soon be back in contract for sale and that the transfer of ownership will pose the same risk that Planet Fitness will move into the Summerfield space.
So, let’s be heard… let’s communicate to the Planet Fitness owners that we do not want the theater to close and we prefer that they locate the business elsewhere in Santa Rosa.

I want to register my strong opposition to establishing a Planet Fitness gym in the location of 551 Summerfield Rd., the current site of the Summerfield Cinemas. The theater is a decades old community resource for great cinema and a place where all Sonoma County residents are welcome to share an enjoyable outing to see great movies. The community is showing it’s disapproval of the gym with a petition on change.org with thousands registering their opposition. Please find another location that suits you needs and preserves this venerable cultural resource.

This email regards your plans to open a Planet Fitness gym at 551 Summerfield Rd. This is the site of the beloved Summerfield Cinemas, a part of the cultural life of Santa Rosa and Sonoma County since the 1960s. The community continues to show its consistent opposition to the gym as evidenced by a petition on change.org with thousands of signatures. The Summerfield Theater is special resource for the community providing daily, continuous, public showings of the most creative cinematic offerings. It is a beloved part of Santa Rosa. I strongly oppose locating your gym where the movie theater exists. Please find another space for your gym. We want to preserve the theater.
