St. John the Baptist Church is a beautiful Roman Catholic Church that overlooks the Hudson River in the scenic town of Piermont, NY. Founded  in 1852, the history behind this church is remarkable. St. John the Baptist church has offered hundreds of thousands of masses, outreach programs, religious education, fundraising, social activities, community resources and much more for residents of Rockland County. We have Sunday hospitality after the 10:30 mass where our parish family can enjoy coffee and refreshments while getting to know each other. Approximately 550 families are members of the congregation served by St. John the Baptist Church. St. John's has been a  spiritual sanctuary and a source of peace for hundreds of families through good and bad times.

The Archdiocesan Advisory Group has made a preliminary recommendation that St. John's be merged with St. Ann's in Nyack, NY. This means the end of St. John's as we know it because a new parish name will be chosen and most of the ministries will be held at St. Ann's.

St. John's is a strong parish on its own and without it, we, the people of St. John's would feel lost. We love this parish as it is because of the many programs and the community that has been created here. Personally, St. John's has been a rock and refuge to me, serving as a spiritual home for me and my family. St. John's has been incredibly welcoming and accommodating to my family, and after my mother passed away, I was allowed to plant a tree in her memory on its beautiful grounds overlooking the Hudson. The tree and St. John's are a source of  spiritual comfort and peace to all my family, both here  in Sparkill and in Ireland. While this is my personal perspective, I know that other families in the St. John's community feel the same way. St. John's is also home to hundreds of people from Central America. This hard working Spanish community have made a huge contribution to St. John's Church.

We ask Your Eminence to reconsider the preliminary recommendation and have St. John's continue to work more closely and collaboratively with our neighboring parish of Our Lady of Sacred Heart in Tappan, instead of merging  with St. Ann's in Nyack, or with any other church for that matter. The best solution would be to assign us a new pastor!  As one faithful parishioner and head usher of 82 years has said: "Do what Jesus would do: you are taking away our heart". Please let us stay a stand alone parish or to continue being a linked parish with Sacred Heart in Tappan, New York.

Thank you Your Eminence Cardinal Timothy Dolan. May the Holy Spirit guide you and may God bless you as He continues to bless St. John's on the Hudson.
