The Denton County St. John’s Cemetery Association (SJCA) announces “Buried Twice: Memory, Truth, & Justice Series,” a three-day public outreach and education campaign taking place May 7–9 across Denton and Pilot Point. Hosted at four community venues, the campaign invites residents, descendants, historians, preservationists, and advocates to learn more about the history of the oldest known African American cemetery in Denton County and join efforts to secure access, restore the grounds, and recover more of the story of the long-erased St. John’s community.
The SJCA’s upcoming event series will inform the wider public about:
- the cemetery’s existence and history
- the individuals buried there to help identify additional descendants
- provide updates on preservation and legal efforts
- potential community partner and volunteer opportunities including board member positions, research, advocacy, grounds labor, horitculture, preservation, and more
