Spring Valley Science School has been identified as one of thirteen schools that the San Francisco Unified School District is considering closing or merging with another school in the next school year.  We are asking you to sign this petition to demonstrate your support and fight with us against our school's closure.

Spring Valley Science School is the only school still in operation out of the original seven schools established in California during the Gold Rush. It has been educating the children of San Francisco for 172 years!

Spring Valley is a Title I school with over 50% of our students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. About 70% of our student body are classified as English learners, which Spring Valley has been supporting with our Spanish and Cantonese programs. It is the only school in District 3 that provides Spanish instruction. Spring Valley also has Special Day Classes that provide accommodations, modifications and specialized academic instructions to students that need these to reach common core standards.
 
Our beloved school is more than just a physical space; it nurtures our children's curiosity, kindles their love for learning, and helps them unlock their inestimable potential. The proposed closure will force us to face numerous unforeseen challenges. Our children's educational journey will be disrupted, and their access to essential resources will be limited. Families will be burdened with longer commute times, reduced school choices, and difficulty in finding appropriate educational support. The teachers at Spring Valley are deeply saddened by the potential school closure because it means having to be forcibly severed from their beloved school community. The deep-rooted community ties between alumni, families, and staff will be heartlessly severed, erasing decades of shared history and mutual support. 

To ensure our children's future, we need to act now to prevent the closure of Spring Valley Science School. We are not just advocating for us, but for the students, families, and future faces of Spring Valley. Your support can help preserve our community and protect our children's educational rights. La Escuela de Ciencias de Spring Valley ha sido identificada como una de las trece escuelas que el Distrito Escolar Unificado de San Francisco está considerando cerrar o fusionar con otra escuela en el próximo año escolar.  Les pedimos que firmen esta petición para demostrar su apoyo y luchar con nosotros contra el cierre de nuestra escuela.

La Escuela de Ciencias de Spring Valley es la única escuela que aún está en funcionamiento de las siete escuelas originales establecidas en California durante la fiebre del oro. ¡Ha estado educando a los niños de San Francisco durante 172 años!

Spring Valley es una escuela de Título I con más del 50% de nuestros estudiantes que califican para almuerzo gratis o a precio reducido. Alrededor del 70% de nuestro cuerpo estudiantil está clasificado como aprendiz de inglés, lo cual Spring Valley ha estado apoyando con nuestros programas de español y cantonés. Es la única escuela en el Distrito 3 que ofrece enseñanza de español. Spring Valley también tiene clases diurnas especiales que brindan adaptaciones, modificaciones e instrucciones académicas especializadas a los estudiantes que las necesitan para alcanzar los estándares básicos comunes.

Nuestra querida escuela es más que un espacio físico; Alimenta la curiosidad de nuestros hijos, enciende su amor por el aprendizaje y les ayuda a desbloquear su inestimable potencial. El cierre propuesto nos obligará a enfrentar numerosos desafíos imprevistos. El viaje educativo de nuestros hijos se verá interrumpido y su acceso a los recursos esenciales será limitado. Las familias se verán agobiadas por tiempos de viaje más largos, opciones escolares reducidas y dificultades para encontrar el apoyo educativo adecuado. Los maestros de Spring Valley están profundamente entristecidos por el posible cierre de la escuela porque significa tener que ser separados a la fuerza de su querida comunidad escolar. Los lazos comunitarios profundamente arraigados entre los exalumnos, las familias y el personal se cortarán sin piedad, borrando décadas de historia compartida y apoyo mutuo.
