The Issue

Along the roads of College street, stands a venue that holds more than just bricks and mortar. This venue houses a club that is a safe haven, a community that embraces everyone, regardless of their appearance, gender, or sexuality. It is a vibrant hub where music and arts thrive, a rare gem where diversity is celebrated, and personal expression is encouraged.

Sadly, this precious space is under threat. Plans are in motion to replace it with condominium developments, erasing its rich cultural identity and transforming it into just another generic structure. This isn't just about saving a building; it's about preserving the spirit and soul that reside within it. The cultural significance of this club extends beyond its walls, impacting countless lives through shared experiences and memories.

There is more at risk than just losing Sneaky Dee’s.

The proposed plan will affect the buildings from 419 College street to 431 College street. This will mean the loss of homes and jobs for everyone along this block in return for condos that we, the people of Toronto, can likely not afford. Toronto is one of the most expensive cities in the country, taking away the livelihood of those in this area will come at a detrimental cost to them.

Let's consider alternatives. The city council needs to prioritize preserving spaces that hold significant social and cultural value. There should be deliberate collaborations with community members, urban developers, and policymakers to explore ways that honor both progress and preservation.

We need your voice. Stand with us to demand that our city values its cultural landmarks and prevents the unchecked spread of condominium projects. Your support can help ensure that College Street remains a diverse and welcoming space for future generations.

Sign this petition to show that our community values its rich cultural fabric and demands that developers rethink plans to turn our cherished clubs into condos. Together, we can protect our cultural legacy for those who walk these streets long after us.
