We were proud to see the Beloit Daily News publish our latest column on the Snappers rebranding today. If you haven't read it yet you can do so here:
Snappers Fan Offers Compromise
The big headline is the unveiling of our new idea for the team: "The Beloit River Rockers". This new name is inspired by the Rock River, which runs alongside the new ABC Supply Stadium in Downtown Beloit. Snappy is reborn as a heavy metal rocker, and joins Beloit Brewers mascot Brewsteer and others to start a band. As mentioned in the Beloit Daily News, we see this as the perfect compromise: the team gets a new name and logo to help merchandise sales, and the fans get to keep Snappy!
Of course many of you would still prefer the team stick with the "Beloit Snappers" name, and so would we. But despite everyone's incredible effort, that idea seems to be going nowhere with the organization. Like it or not, the team sadly is changing its name next season. The only question left is, is it going to be one of the announced names everyone seems to hate... or something that better reflects Beloit and the Stateline Area? If those are the only two options available, we'll choose the latter one. And try our best to help the organization find something we can all agree on.
A few weeks ago we sent new owner Quint Studer an updated Beloit Snappers logo (which we'll probably release to the public soon). But it unfortunately was a non-starter. According to Studer, other names fans have proposed, like Ironmen and Dino Hunters, have trademark issues. However, he did appear to like our River Rockers idea, so we took it and ran with it. Who knows, maybe we will see it (or a version of it) when the team officially unveils its "new identity" next spring? Anything is better than Cheeseballs, Moo, Polka Pike, Sky Carp or Supper Clubbers, right? Under our plan, the team can transition to this exciting new era while still keeping the Snappers tradition alive.
We'll be revealing many more details of our Beloit River Rockers proposal in the weeks ahead, so please keep visiting this website. But in the meantime, what is your initial reaction to the new name and logo? Love it or hate it, please let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
