In the past 24 hours we learned some important new information about the future of the Beloit Snappers. Late Wednesday afternoon owner Quint Studer posted a detailed update on social media-- the team's first on the rebranding since the fan vote ended on September 25th. If you haven't read it yet it's definitely worth checking out:

Quint Studer's update

The key takeaway for us is the team does not plan to unveil its "new identity" now until next spring. Mr. Studer writes: "We're not just unveiling a new name for the team, we're unveiling a new identity and each step is an important part to develop that identity. We want to make sure we get the total package right before we present anything to our fans."

We're of course disappointed the organization continues to insist it is moving on from the "Snappers" name. But we are encouraged to read they do seem to be listening to fan input, and are taking more time to make their decision. This is pure speculation on our part, but if the team was really moving forward with either Cheeseballs, Moo, Polka Pike, Sky Carp or Supper Clubbers they probably would have announced it already. This delay seems to suggest they are working on a new, yet to be revealed concept... a reaction to all of us speaking out so strongly against the proposed names. And we should all be proud of that fact!

The other big development is Mr. Studer appears to be trying to knock down media reports this week that the Oakland A's are moving on from Beloit. He writes: "We've had a terrific relationship with the Oakland Athletics since 2013 and look forward to many more years as an Oakland affiliate. However, geographic alignment is important to Major League Baseball and it's possible that we will be assigned a new affiliate for next season."

It's great to read it may still be possible for Beloit to remain an A's affiliate. Also it’s encouraging that if it doesn't work out Studer appears confident the team will be able to form a new relationship with another major league club. We remain hopeful that a new stadium will be enough to prevent Beloit from becoming one of the 40 minor league teams to lose its MLB affiliation next season. But if it does happen please be assured that the team will not disappear: there are at least a couple of other independent leagues the Snappers could join instead!

So what do you think of all of these new updates from the team? Always appreciate reading your comments. Together we can help guide the organization through this critical chapter in Beloit baseball’s history!
