I, like many others, cherish Smith Creek Park Preserve, a gem in the heart of our community. It is not just a piece of land for us; it is an 82 acre pristine wooded green space with sandy walking trails and a tranquil wildlife habitat abutting beautiful 92 acre Smith Creek Park . The Preserve has provided many of us with respite from our daily lives and fostered a deep connection with nature. However, a proposed project will literally "pave paradise and put up a parking lot."

We strongly encourage the New Hanover County Commissioners to pause this project immediately to allow for public input on this crucial matter. We believe that informed citizen involvement is fundamental to any decision affecting our environment and community. Additionally, we request the Commissioners themselves to visit the Preserve, walk its trails, and understand what's truly at stake here – the unique biodiversity, ecological balance, and the serene beauty that enriches our lives.
