Neighbors, we’re making an urgent plea for your help.

Many of you may not know that 21 acres at the intersection of Highway 96 and Thompson Mill Road are being proposed for commercial development instead of remaining residential. This is an enormous piece of property—roughly half the size of the Galleria Mall area.

We have heard that a Tractor Supply, possibly a Home Depot, and other commercial businesses could be considered for the property. This change would benefit only the two property owners, of the Talton Family Trust,  while the consequences would be felt by our entire community.

We have family owned businesses that will be affected Best Hardware and McDonald’s Horse supply.  They cannot compete against corporations. 

This is not about being against growth. It is about protecting the character and quality of life that make Bonaire such a wonderful place to live.

Waterford South and our surrounding neighborhoods have been blessed with a relatively quiet, safe, family-oriented community. Turning this property into a commercial development could mean:
• Increased traffic at an already difficult intersection
• More traffic traveling along Thompson Mill Road, which is the primary way many neighborhoods access Highway 96
• Increased congestion and the possibility of traffic coming through our neighborhoods
• Commercial and traffic noise, including nighttime lighting and activity
• Potentially higher property taxes
• A possible decrease in the value and appeal of our homes
• Even more pressure on our roads and infrastructure, especially with the proposed data center only about five miles away
Once commercial development comes in, we can't simply undo it.

There are a few of us who will be coming around after work and throughout this weekend asking our neighbors to please take a moment to sign the petition opposing the rezoning and commercial development of this property.

We need your voice.
Please help us protect the quiet, residential character of Bonaire and our neighborhoods. This isn't just about one piece of property—it is about what we want our community to look like for years to come.
