There are mixed wetlands all throughout Shallotte point. Wetlands filter out PFAS and other forever chemicals. It's no secret that drinking the water here is dangerous. So, why does Brunswick County Planning Board, Commissioners, The US Army Corps of Engineers, and the Unified Development Ordinance allow for the destruction of these CRITICALLY important ecosystems that can PURIFY OUR WATER and SAVE OUR LIVES?
I have questions for developers: have you tested the land/water/surrounding environment for PFAS forever chemicals? Do you know the current PFAS contamination levels of this area you're developing on? What are you doing/how are you actively trying to mitigate the problems of PFAS land/water contamination to new inhabitants? Since no one wants you developing, are you doing anything to help existing residents, specifically residents with wells? Are potential home buyers being informed that their water is contaminated and they are at an increased risk of exposure to PFAS and developing related health issues and cancers associated?
