Save 'See Something, Say Something' Tour for Anti-Bullying at Beaufort High School

Save 'See Something, Say Something' Tour for Anti-Bullying at Beaufort High School
The Issue
Every year, the theater program at Beaufort High School puts on an original show, called "See Something, Say Something" used to promote anti-bullying. This has been a thing for over 10 years and have gone to middle schools all over the county to spread this message. We promote mental health, reaching out when you need help, and the importance of community. Well this year, as we are starting to plan out our acts for this year, our school district tells us we can not tour this show as kids need to spend more time in class. For every presentation, it is a one day thing for about an hour each show, so not much class time missed. They instead said we could record this show, but there's multiple problems with this. With recordings, not only will there be a missing aspect of people and community, people won't pay attention as much and teachers can sensor out whatever they would like. We touch on some hard topics, but they're important to hear, so if a teacher decides they want to sensor something, these kids are missing out on crucial information in a very important, yet confusing part of their lives. Us as highschoolers understand how hard it can be, and lots of us have actually seen this show as middle schoolers ourselves. Every year, we have teachers approach us telling us how important this work is, kids coming up to us hugging us and crying say how they really needed to hear this and they will reach out and get help, or even saying how they will stop bullying people. We have news outlets cover this play, we have parents loving what we're showing their kids, and even have kids recognize us out in public. We are showing these kids that they aren't alone and that they certainly aren't helpless, and that they have a voice, but it's hard to show them they have a voice if this show is being stopped and our voices aren't being heard. These kids need this message, and us as highschoolers need to give them this message. We are doing everything we can, but we can only do so much, so please, push out this petition. Sign it and share it with anyone you can, so we can get this message to the middle schoolers. If you want to know more about what we do, you can look up "'See Something, Say Something' BHS Beaufort"
