My name Marieliz and I've spent countless memorable years as a student and teacher aide at School 33, located in the heart of our beloved community. It's not just this school’s nostalgic corridors or the favorite spots where friendships were forged, but the undeniable impact it has on the lives of hundreds of families that deeply concerns me today. School 33 is facing the threat of closure, a decision that, if carried out, will rip the beating heart out of our community.

Established over 40 years ago, School 33 has been a cradle of learning and growth for generations. It is more than just a building; it is a beacon of hope and opportunity for our children. According to a recent study by the National Center for Education Statistics, community schools like ours are linked to better student outcomes, higher graduation rates, and improved self-esteem.

The proposed closure will not only displace the students to overcrowded schools in neighboring districts but will also dissolve the community bonds which have taken decades to build. Why should our children have to wake up hours earlier to commute across town just to receive the education they deserve? It’s not just about location; it’s about the quality of education and maintaining an environment that nurtures and equips our kids for success.

We understand the budget constraints facing our district, but closing down School 33 isn't the answer.

School 33’s closure could lead to a significant decline in community cohesion, affecting not just the existing student body but also the future of our neighborhood. We need urgent action now to prevent such a harmful decision.
