We are pleased to provide a very positive update regarding the Brimley Multi-Use Trail. As many of you are aware, we have been in regular dialogue with Councilor Crawford's office regarding the matter of residents losing their driveways and street access along Brimley Road South. Besides the significant adverse financial impact, for many residents losing access would severely compromise our ability to maintain, enjoy, and live in our homes. Many residents have lived here since pre-amalgamation and at least one family pre-dates Brimley Road itself. That is why we are pleased to share the update from Councilor Crawford, who has given guidance that "I will not accept loss of residents' driveways or street access except as part of the formal expropriation process and unless absolutely necessary" and promised to "entrench this as part of a formal motion" post election. We see this as an incredibly positive development.
We recognize and understand the lingering cynicism within the community, which is understandable given the TRCA's clandestine approach and dubious claims made to the community. This is why we want to be explicitly clear that Councilor Crawford's office has been hard at work advocating on behalf of the community, as evidenced by his position on the matter.
We want to express our gratitude to Councilor Crawford (and his chief of staff, Monique Lisi) for the ongoing and continued support and partnership, taking time away from the campaign trail to focus on representing our community. This experience highlights the importance of having good, honest, and effective local leadership ahead of the upcoming municipal election.
We also appreciate the Cliffcrest Scarborough Village SW Residents Association for writing to the TRCA about the broader Brimley MUT and facilitating key introductions. And of course, thanks to all of the residents who contributed their time, knowledge, and support earlier this year, from gathering signatures to helping shed light on an otherwise opaque TRCA project.
