Sawbridgeworth Town Council Petition: Save Leventhorpe Swimming Pool
We, the undersigned, with the support of Sawbridgeworth Town Council, urgently call on the UK Government to reinstate funding for Leventhorpe Swimming Pool, scheduled to close on 23 December 2024, due to the Government’s decision to withdraw funding support. This decision impacts not only Sawbridgeworth but also the surrounding community, which relies on these facilities for health, wellbeing, and community connection.
Leventhorpe Pool has been a vital resource, benefiting local schools, clubs, families, and individuals. Many residents have experienced important family memories, such as their children learning to swim, and life-changing health improvements through regular use of this pool, underscoring the essential role these facilities play in strengthening our community and improving physical and mental wellbeing.
This pool is more than a recreational space; it is a community lifeline where people of all ages come together to exercise, connect, and thrive. Local schools depend on it for swimmng lessons, which are a critical skill for children. For many residents—especially children and the elderly—there is no realistic alternative if Leventhorpe closes.
We are calling on the Government to reconsider these funding cuts and provide the financial support necessary to keep Leventhorpe Swimming Pool open for our community.
Cllr Eric Buckmaster, Cllr Ruth Buckmaster, Cllr Annelise Furnace, Cllr Dawn Newell, Cllr Salvatore Pagdades, Cllr Angus Parsad-Wyatt, Cllr Nathan Parsad-Wyatt, Cllr Simon Penney, Cllr Greg Rattey, Cllr John Rider, Cllr Reece Smith, Cllr Steve Smith
