Save “Santa” our Lewisville Middle School science teacher
Save “Santa” our Lewisville Middle School science teacher
The Issue
Timothy Davis, Lewisville Middle School’s dedicated science teacher not only looks like Santa Claus, complete with Snow White hair and beard, he also volunteers to play Santa all over South Carolina every year. This year he has the opportunity to work as Santa for pay from November 27 until Christmas Eve. Taking this temporary job would mean he would need a long term substitute to teach his science classes for 17 days. Taking on this little job would earn him the money he needs for shoulder surgery. He honestly told the Chester County school board and the school superintendent his plans on July 31, of this year with no reply. He continued to write to them, even offering to pay for his own substitute, and forego any holiday bonus, and asking them for their ideas to best serve his students.
Mr. Davis is a well loved teacher who brings science alive to his students with many hands-on experiences indoors and outdoors.
The Board never responded. This past Monday, November 13, he was notified that he would be terminated for breach of contract. No discussion.
Mr. Davis apparently cares more for his students and has tried harder to prepare for his 17 day absence than the administration has- they who should know how difficult it is to find qualified teachers have chosen to terminate a wonderful and dedicated teacher who is trying to make ends meet on the paltry salary teachers are given. He has put forth honest efforts to cover his absence. The answer he recreate detrimental and short sighted for the students.
There are only 3 days left to change the decision of Chester County school board and administrators and the future of our students and their science Santa Claus. Please sign and pass along this petition for justice.
