Thank you to the 83 Friends of Sailor Bar folks who showed up to Thursday Night's Regional Parks Commissioner's Hearing. The meeting started at 6 p.m. and ended after 10 p.m. due to the large number of people who gave the allotted 2 minutes to speak per agenda item. The Sacramento Bee, KCRA 3, and CBS 13 covered the event.
A long list of compelling reasons were presented for keeping cars out of the interior of Sailor Bar. A common theme was that more cars = less access. There was not a single valid reason for allowing public motor vehicles. The Vice-Chairperson for the Sacramento County Disability Advisory Commission (DAC) reiterated the DAC's adopted motion that included, "Continue the closure of all existing maintenance and emergency vehicular roads in Sailor Bar that are proposed to be reopened to public vehicles. The road closure should continue until a thorough comprehensive evaluation of all concept plans has been performed. (The ADA/Accessible Nature Trail Plans).
NOONE who made a public presentation voiced support for reopening the interior roads to cars.
The Park Director completely disregarded the public input, as well as the DAC Vice Chairpersons' input. She said she will reopen the gates to pubic motor vehicles in two weeks. WTF?!?
We the people remain united in our advocacy to Protect Sailor Bar. Even it means, 'CLOSE THE GATES - KEEP CARS OUT!". Phase 3 is just beginning.
Please be the eyes and ears for Sailor Bar. Download the 311 app to report incidents. Please also email incidents to ProtectSailorBar@yahoo.com. Write to District 3 Supervisor Rich Desmond and the other Board of Supervisors. Supervisor Desmond has voiced support for allowing public motor vehicles into Sailor Bar. He has refused to have a town hall meeting with us, and has refused to have this issue put on the Board of Supervisors Agenda.
