The Erieau Community Association (ECA) has been lobbying Federal, Provincial and local Municipal government to protect and remediate the Rondeau Barrier Beach (also known locally as Seagull Island) for the past 10++ years to no avail. A recent storm has once again opened a wide swath of beach between Lake Erie and Rondeau Bay taking down trees and washing out sections of the beach and the surrounding marsh area. The area is a haven for many species at risk including the spotted gar, various other fish & wildlife, mollusks and many endangered turtles. 

We call on the Federal and Provincial Governments and all relevant departments to put aside their finger pointing and put their heads together to find a solution. 

Should they continue to bury their collective heads in the sand, at some point the breach will become wider and deeper allowing waves from Lake Erie to enter with force to Rondeau Bay. The communities of Erieau, Shrewsbury, Rondeau Shores and indeed even Rondeau Provincial Park along with valuable farmlands will sustain incredible and ever increasing damage. 

We call on our government bodies to protect and prevent a disaster.
