Save Rigorous College-Level Courses at Our High School

The Issue

Over the years, our school has had to make a series of unfortunate reductions - in rigorous courses, teaching staff, class structure, and curriculum - in an effort to save the budget. Now, however, our administration is threatening to eliminate half of the remaining college-level courses that serve as the lifeline for many of our students striving for higher academic achievement and a secure college placement in a world where that process is becoming increasingly competitive. College-level calculus, trigonometry, physics, and many other key courses are now on the chopping block.

As a senior who has applied to some of the highest-rated universities, I have had the privilege of engaging with students from many other high schools, including those that face similar fiscal challenges. Yet, these schools continue to prioritize rigorous coursework to foster student growth and give them the desired edge in college placement. Our school's inability to understand the nuances of this situation leads to a vital disadvantage for the students.

It is imperative that we preserve these advanced courses as they not only prepare us for higher education but also serve as gateways to colleges who examine these course choices as indicative of a student’s commitment to their future studies. Our success, both now and in the future, should not be compromised for the sake of budgetary adjustments. Please sign this petition to convince our school administration to rethink the proposed cuts and uphold rigorous courses for future generations of students.
