For over 40 years, the Ridgewood Infant Toddler Development Center has been a cornerstone of our community - a place where generations of working parents have found full-time nurturing care and education from infanthood into PreK. This institution is not only a historic emblem of Ridgewood's dedication to early childhood education but also a point of pride that sets us apart from neighboring Bergen County towns.
The closure of ITDC was proposed on March 16th by Superintendent Mark Schwarz as a cost saving discussion point. Since then, our ITDC parents and community have reached out to participate in said-discussion, asking for clarity, alternative solutions, open dialogue, and have received no direct answers to our questions from the Superintendent’s Office. The lack of transparency in decision-making by Dr. Schwarz & Dr. Fenwick is not only heartbreaking but unprofessional, and unjust.
This local gem has been instrumental in shaping the futures of countless Ridgewood children. The dedicated staff and teachers have consistently gone above and beyond, forming bonds that continue to influence students long after they've left. The community relies on their commitment to foster our littlest ones.
Unfortunately, the decision to close ITDC was made behind closed doors, in stark contrast to the transparency and collaboration that the district claims to value. The superintendents have failed to engage the parents, teachers, and larger community, leaving us without a voice in a decision that affects us all.
We demand accountability and a thorough review of the procedures that led to this decision. We urge the Board of Education to reconsider the closure and explore alternative solutions that would not disrupt the continuity of care and education that our children so richly deserve.
By signing this petition, you are standing with us to protect the future of our children, the livelihoods of dedicated staff, and the trust that should exist between the community and its educational leaders.
Together, we can hold those in power accountable and preserve this vital institution for future generations.
Please sign and share widely to ensure our tiniest voices are heard.
Thank you!
