Save Rhode Lane Fields – For Our Community, Wildlife & Future.
The Issue
Our local fields, off Rhode Lane in Bridgwater, a valued green space for the community and home to a wide variety of wildlife, are currently under serious threat from a proposed development of 225 dwellings.
Bloor Homes has recently opened a public consultation for the first phase of this development, which would see approximately 100 houses built on land which serves as more than just a space. These fields provide an area for locals to enjoy walks, a place for children to play, as well as opportunities to connect and appreciate nature with grazing cattle, natural hedgerows, and the wildlife that call this area home, including deer, foxes, bats, owls, badgers, eels, and many bird and plant species.
If approved, this development could bring:
- Increased traffic congestion and pressure on already overstretched local roads, especially along Rhode Lane and surrounding junctions.
- Loss of green space and habitat, impacting the local biodiversity and wellbeing of the area.
- More broken promises; previous developments (such as Wilstock) have made promises of additional services which never materialised.
- More unaffordable houses for local residents.
- Noise and Visual pollution.
The building of new homes is important. However, developing on this greenfield site is not the answer; there are much better alternatives such as brownfield sites.
If you have walked, played, found peace in this place, or are against the loss of such valuable green space, then please sign and share this petition and help protect our fields, encouraging Bloor Homes and Somerset Council to reconsider this proposal, because once these fields are gone, we can't get them back.
