The Issue

The Issue:
By the end of 2025, our beloved local baseball field may soon become a thing of the past for our community. We're talking about the historic Rennicke Field Baseball Field! This field holds a special place in our community, having borne countless memories of triumph, resilience, and camaraderie. But now, it is threatened by plans to convert it into a parking lot, an apartment complex, pool expansion, civic campus expansion, a band shell, etc. The rumors and possibilities are endless.

The history attached to Rennicke Field deserves to be honored. It has served as the backdrop to what the center of a community is supposed to be. Rennicke Field, located in the heart of Mequon, was founded in 1947 and named after Don Rennicke, one of the first baseball coaches for Homestead High School. Don had an impressive baseball career history of his own, which eventually brought this namesake field to our community. The field has seen home runs, high school championships, and even generations of families bonding over this beloved sport. This is more than just about saving a baseball field; it's about preserving a crucial part of our shared heritage.

With the growing trend of urban development, many communities across the country are losing pieces of their history. With an estimated loss of 150+ public fields in recent years across the nation (source: National Recreation and Park Association). Yet, research suggests that green spaces like baseball fields play a crucial role in community health and well-being (source: American Society of Landscape Architects).

The decision about the fate of Rennicke Field should not be left solely to city employees and public governance. It's an issue that directly concerns all members of our community, and it's only right that we have a say in this pivotal decision - permanently.

Let's work together to avoid the erasure of our history, uphold community values, honor our rich history, and ensure future generations can enjoy the same opportunities and then some! Preserve Rennicke Field! Please, SIGN AND SHARE this petition today.
