The Issue

I am a resident of Ordsall, an area that has long faced economic challenges. Our community heavily relies on the services and jobs provided by Regent Retail Park, our local shopping centre. The proposed development plan to convert this retail park into apartment complexes threatens our livelihoods and community spirit.

Regent Retail Park is not just a shopping centre; it's a lifeline for many in Ordsall. It provides essential goods, services, and employment opportunities that are scarce in our area. If replaced with apartments, these resources would be lost.

We are already struggling to get appointments to see a GP within our over-stretched surgeries, our dentist has closed down and adding an extra 7000 people will prove catastrophic to our local community. We do  not have the infrastructure to cope with the multiple apartment complexes being forced onto our estate and touted as affordable City Centre living for Manchester. We are Salford!

Regent Road is the main artery through Salford to Manchester City Centre and is already heavily congested  pushing our air quality levels up to 88 out of 100 and contravening three W.H.O limits (addresspollution.org).The increase in traffic needed to build these TEN apartment blocks including the third tallest in the UK outside London will make an already dire situation unbearable. The estate is already being treated as a giant carpark by non-residents who routinely park in bus-stops and on pavements.

The deprivation index for Ordsall is significantly higher than the national average (source: UK Government Statistics). This means that any reduction in local resources could have devastating effects on already struggling families.

Let's stand together to protect Regent Retail Park from being turned into apartments. By signing this petition, you're supporting all residents of Ordsall and beyond who depend on these shops for their survival. Ordsall is not an overspill for Manchester City Centre we are a community under ever increasing pressure that needs your help!
