Every resident of Ramallah and the Palestinian community at large is being robbed of their physical history. At a time when the Israeli occupation is actively trying to erase our culture and our presence on this land, it is more vital than ever that we preserve every piece of our heritage. Under current laws, homes built after 1948 lack legal protection, leaving the very architecture that defines our city vulnerable. Families are watching their neighborhoods lose their character, and future generations are being deprived of the visual proof of their history as traditional stone homes are replaced by generic high-rises. If the law does not change, Ramallah will soon be a city of glass and concrete with no soul. History did not stop in 1948, yet our laws treat every stone building built after that year as disposable. At stake is our cultural identity and the preservation of the traditional craftsmanship that proves our deep roots in this land. Once these homes are demolished, they are gone forever; we cannot rebuild history once it has been turned into rubble. We are at a breaking point. Urban development is accelerating so rapidly that we are losing significant stone buildings every month. We must act now to demand: 1. An immediate and permanent ban on the demolition of any building constructed with traditional local stone, regardless of the year it was built 2. A legal amendment to replace the outdated "pre-1948" rule with a law that protects "Architectural Stone Character" as the sole requirement for preservation. 3. The formal recognition of all traditional stone structures as national heritage sites. This is not a call to halt development. It is a call to develop responsibly, without erasing the very heritage that defines Ramallah. We need to protect our architectural character and our historic existcance before the last of our historic stone homes disappear for good. Please sign to save the soul of Ramallah.      رام الله ليست مجرد مدينة، بل ذاكرة من حجر، وحكايات محفورة في جدران بيوتها القديمة. في أزقتها نشأنا، وعلى شرفاتها كبرت قصص عائلات شكّلت روح المكان. هذه البيوت ليست مجرد مبانٍ، بل شواهد حيّة على وجودنا، وعلى حياة امتدت لأجيال. واليوم، هذه الذاكرة مهددة بالزوال، بيتًا بعد بيت، وحجرًا بعد حجر. يُسلب كل فرد من سكان رام الله، وكذلك المجتمع الفلسطيني عمومًا، تاريخه المادي الملموس. في وقت يعمل فيه الاحتلال الإسرائيلي بشكل ممنهج على طمس ثقافتنا ومحو وجودنا على هذه الأرض، يصبح الحفاظ على كل جزء من تراثنا أكثر إلحاحًا من أي وقت مضى. وبموجب القوانين الحالية، لا تحظى البيوت المبنية بعد عام 1948 بأي حماية قانونية، مما يترك العمارة التي تُشكّل هوية مدينتنا عرضة للهدم. تشهد العائلات تغيّر ملامح أحيائها، وتُحرم الأجيال القادمة من الدليل البصري على تاريخها، مع استبدال البيوت الحجرية التقليدية بمبانٍ شاهقة بلا هوية. إذا لم يتغيّر القانون، ستتحول رام الله قريبًا إلى مدينة من زجاج وباطون بلا روح. فالتاريخ لم يتوقف عام 1948، ومع ذلك تتعامل قوانيننا مع كل مبنى حجري شُيّد بعد ذلك العام وكأنه قابل للاستغناء. إن هويتنا الثقافية والحِرف المعمارية التقليدية التي تثبت جذورنا العميقة في هذه الأرض على المحك. فبمجرد هدم هذه البيوت، تختفي إلى الأبد، ولا يمكن إعادة بناء التاريخ بعد أن يتحول إلى ركام. نحن نصل إلى نقطة حرجة. فالتوسع العمراني يتسارع بشكل خطير، ونفقد كل شهر مباني حجرية ذات قيمة تاريخية ومعمارية. يجب أن نتحرك الآن للمطالبة بما يلي: 1. فرض حظر فوري ودائم على هدم أي مبنى مشيّد بالحجر المحلي التقليدي، بغض النظر عن سنة بنائه. 2. تعديل قانوني يستبدل قاعدة “ما قبل 1948” بقانون يحمي “الطابع المعماري الحجري” باعتباره المعيار الوحيد للحفاظ. 3. الاعتراف الرسمي بجميع المباني الحجرية التقليدية كمواقع تراث وطني. هذا ليس اعتراضًا على التطوير، بل مطالبة بأن يكون تطويرًا مسؤولًا، يحفظ التراث الذي يمنح رام الله هويتها. نحن بحاجة إلى حماية طابعنا المعماري ودليلنا الثقافي قبل أن تختفي آخر بيوتنا الحجرية التاريخية إلى الأبد. وقّعوا لحماية روح رام الله.     لا حاجة لأي مساهمة مالية في نهاية العريضة؛ يكفي التوقيع عليها ومشاركتها مع الأصدقاء والعائلة
