On 4/8/2024 at the RRPS board meeting, our board and superintendent voted to move forward with plans to look at dissolving Puesta Del Sol Elementary School. They want to turn it into a full day pre-k for 3 year olds and 4 year olds. The benefits of pre-k are great. However, by choosing to utilize an existing school, they will displace almost 600 low-income families from Puesta, families from other schools, and 100 staff members. This removes the community that Puesta has worked years to build. It will also create an influx of students at the other elementary schools which are already pushing capacity. There are other options that district does not want to explore. Current data and statistics show that closing and re-districting existing schools is detrimental to both social-emotional health and academic achievement for students. Help us get our district to utilize other options to advance our pre-k program!
