The Issue

Attn: Mass Transit Closures   To Whom It May Concern:   I have been a mass transit user since I was fourteen years old. Over the years, transit services have declined for regular users. Recently, the Port Authority of Pittsburgh proposed closing 40 additional routes due to lack of funds. This concerns me deeply, as I depend on the buses to take me where I need to go! Additionally, these closures will negatively effect communities. Many people depend on mass transit to get to work, school, and doctor’s appointments! How do you expect these residents to get to where they need to go with no bus services? What about people who leave work late at night and now do not have a safe way home? What about people who work overnight shifts? You can’t be serious! Please take their safety into consideration! Port Authority workers will also be negatively affected by these budget cuts. There will be layoffs. What will you do about that? Something needs to be done to prevent these closures. The Port Authority needs to work with state and local organizations and government, and as a team come up with a solution. Pittsburghers need mass transit! It is already difficult to get around the city with the current services let alone closing additional routes! In addition to fare increases, these proposed route changes will negatively affect the residents of our city. I am asking the leaders of the Port Authority to rethink these proposed changes. We need to keep the busses running! Pittsburghers depend on public transportation! Listen to your employees, especially the bus operators, as they have a stake in these changes as well!  Respectfully,  Kristen Greene
