Please help! My dog Prince is going to be put to sleep by Dallas Animal Services for defending himself and me from my violent ex-roommate/landlord who attacked him with a butcher knife!

Prince was outside and my roommate and I were arguing. Prince was barking trying to get inside to protect me. When I questioned the roommate about molesting my granddaughter and threatened him with pressing charges against him and owning his house, he walked to the kitchen got a butcher knife and was walking out the back door where Prince was. I followed him to see what he was doing. So when he started stabbing at my dog I moved towards them and Barry was going to stab me so Prince protected me again. When I had the chance I grabbed both arms so he couldn't stab me or Prince. In the scuffle, he fell over the rail of the porch and my dog attacked him. There were two other adults and a child out there and he didn't even try to go for them he only was trying to get Barry. I tried to stop Prince from attacking him several times I finally had to throw a blanket over the man to get my dog to stop. I took Prince out of there before the police and ambulance came. My roommate was injured and so DAS confiscated my dog. Since then, Prince has sat in a kennel at DAS for months by himself and I have not been allowed any contact with him while the court decides whether to put him down.
I have had Prince ever since I adopted him from Dallas Animal Services when he was a 10 week old starved, neglected puppy. He is very attached to my granddaughter and me. He is a gentle dog, and the only circumstance in which he would attack is if my granddaughter or I were threatened. I no longer live with the ex-roommate and I just want a peaceful, safe life for Prince and me, and to be able to re-pay Prince for the months he sat in a cell at DAS as a result of protecting us.
