SAVE PORTAGE MANOR

The Issue

On February 7, 2023, St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners abruptly announced the plan to close Portage Manor. This announcement came without warning or public input.

What is Portage Manor?
Portage Manor has been a secure, affordable housing alternative to adults and older adults with physical and/or mental disabilities that limit their independence. Portage Manor has provided them with 24-hour assisted living support for decades and has been an important part of the St. Joseph County community for over 100 years.

What does the closure of Portage Manor mean for the community?
Portage Manor residents rely on nursing and staff assistance to manage everyday demands. They have a community there that is supportive and accepting of who they are and many have lived there for over a decade. Without Portage Manor these residents will lose their home and be thrust into a community setting that is already struggling to meet mental health and affordable housing needs.

ACT NOW!

The St. Joseph County Common Council still has to vote before they can move forward with the closure of Portage Manor. They meet on 2/28 to discuss.
