At a Port San Luis Harbor Commission meeting held on Dec. 9th, 2025, it was announced that Clean Energy Terminals (CET) was terminating their agreement with the port. CET was to receive $1.9 million of the California Energy Commission's grant money. CET was one of the companies that had entered an agreement  to complete a feasibility study to determine if PSL could be made into an O & M terminal and if so CET would most likely be awarded the contract for the project.

CET's citing the reason for terminating the agreement was due to "unprecedented uncertainties caused by changes in federal policy and changes in clean energy industry conditions". In simple terms the federal subsidies are disappearing. And without the subsidies offshore wind energy isn't profitable. As Warren Buffet stated in 2014: “I will do anything that is basically covered by the law to reduce Berkshire’s tax rate.”  "For example, on wind energy, we get a tax credit if we build a lot of wind farms. That’s the only reason to build them. They don’t make sense without the tax credit.”

The evidence clearly shows that offshore wind energy is too expensive and unreliable to be a viable way to meet our electricity needs now and in the future.

"The generation of electricity by wind tells a disappointing story. The political enthusiasm and investor hype are not supported by the evidence, even for offshore wind, which can be deployed out of sight of the infamous My Back yard. What does such evidence say?".... Professor Wade Allison-Emeritus Professor of Physics at the University of Oxford, and a Fellow of Keble College. Author: The Inadequacy of Wind Power

The PSL Harbor District includes Avila Beach, Pismo Beach, Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach, Oceano, Nipomo, and parts of San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria.  If you live in any of these districts look on the Port San Luis website to see who your commissioner is. Contact them and let them know you don't want Port San Luis to have anything to do with wind farms on the central coast.
