Save Port Phillip Bay! We need a final push!

Dear supporters,

In the last update we reported 2400 signatures. We are now at the 5800 mark. This was achieved with the support of you and a small number of environmental groups who helped promoting the petition. However, we are not quite there yet.

Although the petition has far exceeded the minimum to be able to be presented to the Victorian Parliament, we have decided not to do so. As reported earlier, the legislation required for VOPAK to be able lease part of Port Phillip Bay, has already been passed by parliament.

So we decided to present the petition to the IAC (Independent Advisory Committee), who’s job it is to vet the VOPAK proposal and to consider the objections. We will present it as evidence of significant support for the points raised in the formal objections we lodged with the IAC earlier.

More than 6000 objections were instrumental in sinking the proposal to moor a similar polluting re-gasfication ship in Westernport Bay, also near Melbourne. It was proposing basically the same polluting technology as VOPAK is proposing to use.

The in-person presentation to the IAC is on 26 August, the deadline to submit the signatures is Monday 24th August. So I am asking you for a final push: please re-share the petition by any means, friends and family, social media. Let's push it over over the 6000!
