Although this petition was primarily started in response to the county housing element, the broader goal was to ensure Point Reyes did not change more broadly. To that end, I'm emailing this group with an update on the County's work towards formalizing updated Short Term Rental (e.g. Airbnb) guidelines.
The county has come out with a somewhat balanced set of draft guidelines that would partially limit the expansion of short term rentals in West Marin. They can be viewed here. We are, however, seeing an organized attempt by short term rental owners, many of whom have no ties to the community, to get the county to loosen these restrictions, which could result in even further losses to local housing.
If you are willing to share your perspective with the county, the Point Reyes Station Village Association will be hosting a county planner at tomorrow's (Thurs Oct 12th) meeting at 6:30pm at the Dance Palace.
