Save Point England Reserve from Development
POINT ENGLAND RESERVE IS PLANNED FOR HOUSING
ONE THIRD OF THE PLAYING FIELDS WILL DISAPPEAR!
The Government is planning to pass the Point England Development Enabling Bill in March 2017, allowing reserve land to be used for housing. The Auckland City Unitary plan already ear-marked Glen Innes, Point England and Panmure for housing intensification. There will be a significant increase in population. Therefore it is illogical to cut down on open spaces in an area that needs it most.
The government's plan is to reduce Point England Reserve's area of 38.4 HA to 24.6 HA for housing purposes.
At the first reading in Parliament, nearly all MPs who spoke referred to that land as ground for grazing cows. What they did not mention was that a third of the playing field was also included in their plan.
The local population and Auckland will need this space. This playing field is regularly used by schools and communities for cricket and soccer, and family and social gatherings. For example, Music in parks, Movies in parks and the Weet-Bix TRYathalon which will be held in February 2017 at the reserve, will likely no longer be held there in future.
PUBLIC SUBMISSIONS TO THE GOVERNMENT END 31 JANUARY 2017
