Save Piglets Playcentre from Closure in Hersham

Save Piglets Playcentre from Closure in Hersham
The Issue
Piglets Playcentre opened its doors when my first daughter was just 18 months old. It felt like a gift sent from heaven to have such a wonderful community hub within walking distance. If I ever needed a break, I knew I could head over to Piglets to grab a coffee and some healthy 'picky bits' for us both for lunch while my daughter played in a safe, nurturing environment. It wasn't just a playcentre; it became a place where I could meet up with other mums and dads, finding much-needed adult company.
When my second daughter came along, Piglets continued to be a vital part of our lives. Both of my daughters have grown up loving their time there, and have even worked at the playcentre, gaining invaluable work experience and enjoyment. Knowing that this place could soon be gone is heart-wrenching to consider.
The Walton Charity is planning to not renew Piglets Playcentre's lease in order to use the space for a food bank. While food banks are essential, removing Piglets takes away an important facility for mothers, babies, and young children in Hersham. Piglets is more than just a playcentre; it is a place where children can explore, learn, and engage with farm animals, such as pigs and goats, all while enjoying fresh air. This critical community asset supports the well-being and development of our young ones, providing socialisation for children and a supportive network for parents. Particularly for new mums that may be struggling with their mental health.
We urge Walton Charity to consider the needs of our community and find an alternative location for the food bank. Piglets offers unique opportunities for social and emotional growth - benefits that are hard to replace. We aren't just advocating for a building's lease; we're fighting to keep the heart of our community alive. By preserving Piglets, we maintain a vital support system for families and ensure that future generations can enjoy the same wonderful experiences.
Join me in calling on the Walton Charity to renew the lease for Piglets Playcentre and protect this essential community resource. Please sign this petition to help save Piglets for the families of Hersham.
added note: Walton Charity have turned down Piglets suggestion of sharing the space.
please do also consider writing to Monica Harding our MP if you feel strongly about the issue of an essential community asset being taken away.
