Our presentation to the HCC Long Term Plan (LTP) Committee on 20th was given a good hearing, but what happens next depends on the openness of Councillors and Council officers to unfamiliar but effective and cost-efficient technologies to save our wharf. We are continuing to encourage their investigations and are looking to them to include an option in the Draft Plan for consultation which would allow the $6M currently tagged for demolition to be spent on retaining the wharf and its heritage, community, and recreational values. Thank you to the 20+ people who came along to the meeting and held up our posters, and specially to the four who helped headline the Post article - https://www.thepost.co.nz/nz-news/350185456/fight-save-petone-wharf-15b-funnelled-water
Petition numbers are continuing to grow thanks to help from local businesses - Jewel, Jenkins Gym, the Lighthouse Cinema, Style, the Flying Bean Coffee shop on the Esplanade. Others, including the Shoreline Cafe and Jackson Street Programme are displaying our poster. We are grateful for those who keep sharing the online petition with your contacts.
