On Sunday, May 19th, 2024, Burlingame High School emailed parents that school-issued Chromebooks will be required in the 2024-2025 school year. This policy means that personal devices* such as MacBooks, Dell Computers, Personal PCs, and Tablets will be strictly prohibited to use in our classrooms. This is deeply saddening and disheartening, and many students are upset about this policy. 

Chromebooks are still a great resource for all students during testing season and throughout the school year. However, 

School issued Chromebooks:

1) Are issued by the DISTRICT, meaning that if they are damaged, scratched, broken, or destroyed in ANY way by the student (even if it is a total accident), the student is forced to pay the district for the damage. If the student damages their personal device, they are not required to pay anybody.

2) Do not conform to the individual needs of students who may: need to communicate with family members through text, use assistive apps that are not available on Chromebooks, and personalize technological activity to support disabilities or learning difficulties.

3) Should be OPTIONAL. 

Signing this petition means that you support OPTIONALITY. It means that you support your right to use the computer that you or your family paid hard-earned money for, with no obligations or district-imposed responsibilities. Sign this petition to make sure that we can SAVE our right to access personal devices* at school.

May 22: A new petition was created regarding Dr. Fong which personally attacks Burlingame High School. This is completely unaffiliated and I do not condone hateful behavior towards the administration or any school staff.
