Percussion ensemble is a crucial part of the music program at Skyline. In other classes availible, like Concert Band or Wind ensemble, the percussionists job is more to give support behind the wind instruments. In this environment percussionists can not get the experience needed to fully develop their skills. Then, consequently, they are not able to pursue as many opportunities in music as they would be able to with their own group. Losing percussion would also mean the loss of groups like Drum Line. only members of Percussion ensemble play in drum line and losing the program would mean no more drum line at assemblies or sports games.

The school wants to cut the class because they say there aren't enough people to support the program. They want 30 people in the class. This is ridiculous, most pieces composed for percussion ensemble are made for groups of 4-16 people. The class does not have enough equipment to support 30 percussionists and they wouldn't be able to play a lot of music they can with a smaller group.

Most importantly, Percussion ensemble is something its students are very passionate about. For some it is their only outlet and it's the only way for them to express themselves creatively. Losing it would also make students lose motivation and interest in going to School. So, We urge you to please sign this petition to save music at Skyline.
